Outdoor Activities

The Scottish Highlands have been described as Europe’s last great wilderness and Scotland is paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Scotland’s jagged coastline stretches for 2,000 miles, making it ideal for sailing, swimming, windsurfing, diving and even surfing further north..

Scotland’s legendary mountains are a magnet for climbers, including he Cairngorms and Britain’s highest peak, Ben Nevis at 1343 metres (4406 feet). Scotland offers great skiing at five main pistes – Cairngorm, Glenshee, Glencoe, the Lecht, and the Nevis range, which can be reached by car from Glasgow. A great way to take in Scotland’s magnificent scenery is to walk the West Highland Way, a 152 kilometre (95 mile) trail leaving from Milngavie on the outskirts of Glasgow to Fort William.

If shooting is your sport, some of Scotland’s grandest estates hold grouse shooting from the traditional ‘glorious 12th’ of August. And Scotland is home to some of the world’s greatest salmon and trout rivers, particularly the Tay, the Spey, the Dee and the Tweed. Scotland also has more than 6,000 freshwater lochs (lakes) to suit everyone from the beginner to the expert.
