Mummies Tell Tales of Egyptian Gods…
For over a century Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum was loved by millions and was the most visited museum in the UK outside London.
Since re-opening on July 11 after a three year, £27.9 million restoration, Kelvingrove has already welcomed almost 250,000 visitors and is once again a ‘must-see’ attraction for Glasgow – whatever your age.
Through the Glasgow Museums Education Service, the new-look Kelvingrove will serve as a unique and exciting resource for a new generation of visitors to learn about their heritage and the world around them.
Forget everything you think you know about museums – Kelvingrove is different with vastly increased space, fascinating new computer interactives and revolutionary ways of showcasing its art and artefacts including:
50% more space to display 8,000 objects – that’s twice as many objects, some for the first time. Meet old and new exhibits such as Sir Roger the elephant, a real spitfire and the 4-metre Ceratosaur plus Kelvingrove’s handsome new giraffe and an Ancient Egyptian mummy, one of over 80 treasures loaned by the British Museum.
Admission to Kelvingrove is free and is open daily 10am-5pm, except Fridays and Sundays when opening hours are 11am-5pm.
Kelvingrove provides tours and activities for school groups – for further information phone 0141 276 9505 or 0141 276 9506.
