This eleventh edition showcases some of the city’s major events, festivals and attractions over the next few months as it steps from spring to summer. Whether local, or a welcome visitor, Glasgow really does have something to offer everyone.
Highlight events include:
Triptych (25 – 29 April)
Triptych is one of Europe’s most innovative and exhilarating music events. Triptych’s trademark fusion of local talent, underexposed sonic mavericks and international legends will delight enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
Six Cities Design Festival: Glasgow (April – August 2007)
The Six Cities Design Festival will celebrate and raise awareness of the value of design and creativity in all six of Scotland’s cities. Highlights of the Glasgow programme include: the UK premiere - and only UK showing - of Airworld at Glasgow’s Tramway (14 April – 27 May 2007). This Vitra Design Museum exhibition celebrates the design and aesthetics of consumer air travel, from its first popularisation, when flying still possessed the special aura of the extraordinary, to current times when flying is simply a way of life. Another major highlight is The Scottish Show 07 at The Lighthouse in Glasgow - Scotland’s National Architecture and Design Centre (17 May – 12 August).
Glasgow International Jazz Festival (22 June – 1 July)
Glasgow International Jazz Festival celebrates its 21st birthday with an exclusive Scottish appearance from Pat Metheny & Brad Mehldau. 2007 also sees the exciting introduction of a Guest Programme Director: leading British trombone player Dennis Rollins. With US jazz royalty, the Kenny Garrett Quartet; the Neil Cowley trio – one of the biggest jazz stories in the UK this year; a new jazz club in the Merchant City and over 100 free gigs in pubs and restaurants citywide, the festival promises 10 days of funk-filled fun. www.jazzfest.co.uk
