Celtic Connections Goes Global

From today (January 12), Celtic Connections – Glasgow’s annual traditional music festival – will be broadcast live via Glasgow City Marketing Bureau’s website www.seeglasgow.com.

Now in its 13th year, Celtic Connections is considered one of the city’s highlight events, attracting approximately 100,000 concert-goers annually.

This year it runs from January 11 – 29 and for the first time ever the festival will have its own radio station run by Celtic Music Radio Ltd.

Based at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and staffed largely by students from Glasgow universities and colleges, Celtic Music Radio will broadcast festival performances – and the stories behind them – across Glasgow.  However, an alliance with Glasgow City Marketing Bureau will take the daily programmes to a global audience via the internet.

Bob McWilliam, Project Manager for Celtic Music Radio Ltd said: “We are delighted that this alliance with seeglasgow.com will allow the music of Celtic Connections to be heard in homes around the world via the magic of Internet radio. It’s one of the city’s main attractions and we are thrilled to be able to help take it to a whole new audience.”

Scott Taylor, chief executive of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, added:

“Using leading-edge technology in this innovative way supports Glasgow: Scotland with style and reinforces our competitive edge.

“With over 8 million hits per year to our website www.seeglasgow.com this initiative cannot fail to widen the appeal of Celtic Connections to potential visitors to the city region.”
