Glasgow City Marketing Bureau - Expanded Staff & New Responsibilities (EIBTM)

 
Only eight months after its establishment following the reorganisation of Scottish tourism on April 1, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau has added staff from Glasgow City Council’s Major Events and Festivals unit and selected personnel from the council’s Marketing department to its complement of staff bringing the total to 39.         
 
The new agency is headed by Chief Executive Scott Taylor and undertakes a raft of separate but complementary responsibilities to that of the new VisitScotland - Glasgow network office, which leads on tourist information services and leisure tourism.    
 
Funded by Glasgow City Council with contributions from the private sector, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau is engaged in national and international activity comprising:
 
  • Development and implementation of the city branding campaign:
    Glasgow: Scotland with style
  • Conventions, incentives, events, meetings and exhibition sales
  • Conference and event accommodation bookings
  • Public Relations
  • Development of the website: www.seeglasgow.com for the metropolitan area
 
Speaking of recent developments, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau Chief Executive, Scott Taylor, commented:
 
“In its first eight months of operation Glasgow City Marketing Bureau has established itself as the official destination marketing agency for the city, repositioning Glasgow with the brand Glasgow: Scotland with style.   
 
“The move to incorporate Glasgow City Council’s events team within Glasgow City Marketing Bureau makes perfect sense as there is a great deal of common ground between delivering conferences and events.  There will also be greater efficiencies, not to mention nine additional staff who can be deployed across major projects.
 
“With the staff in the Convention Bureau already numbering 13 this latest development further reinforces our position as a major force in convention sales and conference accommodation bookings in Britain.”  
 
In addition to the Convention Bureau and the recent additions from Glasgow City Council, there are four staff in Public Relations, two in Brand Marketing, three in Information Communications Technology, six in Finance & Administration and two in the Chief Executive’s office.

The 2004/05 reorganisation of Scottish tourism was led by a Steering Group chaired by the Minister for Tourism, Patricia Ferguson, and supported by a Progress Group, led by the Scottish Executive.  On April 1 2005, Scotland’s 14 Area Tourist Boards were integrated into VisitScotland, to create a single Scotland-wide network.   Glasgow is unique in Scotland in having its own marketing agency, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, which works either independently or in conjunction with VisitScotland.
