To help visitors to Glasgow get Christmas wrapped up early, a series of four ‘first-person’ features written by 'Real People with Real Style' have been produced, which take readers on a whistle-stop tour of four very different Glasgow shopping districts.
From the bustling city centre and hip merchant city to the über-cool west end and laid-back south side, their personal insight into what gives each quarter its own distinctive atmosphere is a fascinating read.
- “I’m right in the city centre and have the most amazing views over Glasgow and beyond but can walk almost everywhere in town to key music venues and the many theatres, restaurants and shops whilst also being a 12-minute drive from Glasgow Airport.”
Fashion globetrotter Linny Oliphant works as Brand Manager at Johnstons of Elgin, a globally leading cashmere design house known for making the world’s best cashmere within Scotland’s fashionable cashmere industry. She lives in a loft apartment in the heart of Glasgow’s vibrant city centre.
- “Glasgow’s Merchant City was somewhere I had visited on business and was a natural choice – great people, great architecture and my two favourite hobbies readily available; an amazing music scene and brilliant shops.”
After relocating from London to Glasgow, Fashion PR Chris Hunt runs Genuine, one of Scotland’s leading luxury goods creative agencies based in the bustling Merchant City and works with global, national and regional clients.
- “I just adore the open spaces and buzz of Glasgow’s West End, and that’s why I have spent my whole life working and living within its ever changing environment – the very reason I’m here.”
Annie Good has worked and played in Glasgow’s West End all her life and now divides her time travelling to source the latest designs in fashion and accessories for her Ruthven Lane based boutique, Moon, and enjoying the best of the West End.
- “I consider myself a true Glaswegian as it feels like home, and that’s why I came back from London and chose to live here. It’s where I feel safe. Here we can dress up to the nines in clothes from the fantastic local shops for a night out, but equally I can chill out in my old favourites.”
Jo Stewart is Head of Marketing at DF Concerts the Glasgow based promoters behind such international events as the T in the Park music festival and a constant variety of other top level events including Radiance - the city’s inaugural festival of light - in November 2005. Jo is a resident of Glasgow’s South Side.
