Mackintosh 100 to celebrate centenary of iconic Glasgow School of Art Building

gsa

This year is the centenary of the Charles Rennie Mackintosh building at The Glasgow School of Art. Mackintosh 100 is a programme of events, exhibits, tours and workshops taking place to celebrate Mackintosh and this masterpiece of design and architecture.

Completed in 1909, The Mackintosh Building has remained the main home of The Glasgow School of Art. This historic anniversary comes at a time when the eyes of the world are on Scotland as a result of Homecoming 2009 and Mackintosh 100 is part of these celebrations.

The events will focus on the life and works of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his contemporaries. More than a dozen venues will host over 100 events between March and December. Some exhibitions, such as the Glasgow Boys exhibition at the Hunterian Art Gallery and Museum, have already begun.

Highlights of the calendar include the launch of the Mackintosh Experience Bus Tour, a centenary Glasgow School of Art Degree Show, walking tours of the city and The Mackintosh Building and a children’s Summer School.

Mackintosh 100 will culminate with the opening of a centenary exhibition at The Glasgow School of Art on 30 November marking St Andrew's Day and the final day of Homecoming 2009.
